Police in Zambia's Copperbelt Province have opened a murder docket and launched a manhunt for a woman accused in the death of her boyfriend's wife in Kitwe, following a confrontation over an alleged affair.
The victim, 26-year-old Vainess Kanyama, a mother of three, died after allegedly being beaten by Christin Ntundwe, the woman she believed was involved with her husband.
According to Copperbelt Police Commissioner Rae Hamoonga, the incident took place between 3 pm and 4 pm on August 18, 2026, in Ipusukilo, also known as Kapoto Compound, in Kitwe, after Kanyama confronted Ntundwe over the alleged affair.
The case was reported to Riverside Police Station later that evening, around 6:50 pm, by 40-year-old Frank Zulu, Kanyama's father, who said his daughter had been found unconscious following an altercation involving her husband's girlfriend.
A postmortem examination carried out on August 21, 2026, by a pathologist at Kitwe Teaching Hospital found that Kanyama died from a brain injury, which she is suspected to have sustained after falling and hitting the back of her head. She was laid to rest that same Friday.
Hamoonga said police have since opened a murder docket and are actively searching for the suspect.
He appealed to the public to come forward with information that could help locate and apprehend the suspect.
