A father in Kaduna State is holding his young son close again after troops rescued the toddler from suspected kidnappers who had abducted him along with his mother.
The child, identified as two-year-old, Jafaru Baba, was taken alongside his mother from Ungwan Nungu Village in Sanga Local Government Area.
Acting on intelligence about the movement of the kidnappers and their victims, troops launched a rescue operation at about 1600 hours on September 16, 2026.
The search led soldiers to Tayu High Grounds in Tayu Village and the surrounding areas, where they eventually made contact with the suspected kidnappers.
An exchange of fire followed, during which troops expended 17 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
In the chaos, the kidnappers abandoned young Jafaru and fled into the bush, leaving the child behind.
Troops recovered the boy and later handed him over to his father, bringing at least partial relief to a family that had been living through every parent’s worst fear.
His mother, however, remains missing.
Security forces say efforts are ongoing to locate her and to track down those responsible for the abduction.
Search operations have been intensified across the surrounding terrain in a bid to deny the fleeing suspects any freedom of movement, as the family waits for her safe return too.
