Bauchi Police Arrest Four Suspects Over Alleged Assaults on Young Girls

For families in parts of Bauchi State, this week brought a mix of fear and relief, as police announced the arrest of four suspects linked to alleged sexual offences against minors and an attempted break-in, following swift action by detectives and community members.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the operatives for their swift response and reassured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable children.

“The command will not tolerate gender-based violence in any form,” Aliyu said, according to the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, in a statement issued Wednesday.

Habib said the arrests followed sustained operations by detectives attached to the Azare and Bununu Divisions, aimed at tackling gender-based violence and other crimes across the state.

In one case, an eight-year-old girl was allegedly lured into a farm at Chokle Quarters, Azare, on September 14, 2026, by 20-year-old Gidado Adamu of Bidawa Ward, who fled after she raised the alarm.

“Upon receipt of the report, detectives moved swiftly, took the victim to General Hospital, Azare, for medical attention and thereafter arrested the suspect. He confessed to the crime and is currently in custody,” Habib stated.

In a separate incident in Katagum Local Government Area, 20-year-old Abba Umaru of Bidir Ward was arrested after allegedly luring a 10-year-old girl into a farm at Samamuro Village on September 6, where she raised an alarm that scared him off.

“Detectives responded promptly, took the victim to hospital for examination and arrested the suspect. He has confessed and is in detention,” Habib added.

The most distressing case, Habib said, involved 22-year-old Auwalu Wada, known as Samba, arrested over the alleged assault of two seven-year-old girls at Buskuri Village, Madara District, after allegedly luring them into an incomplete building on the evening of September 14.

“Upon receipt of the complaint, detectives evacuated the victims to General Hospital, Azare, for medical attention and arrested the suspect. He has confessed to the act and is currently in custody,” Habib said.

In a fourth, unrelated case, police and members of the local ‘Yan Committee’ in Bununu arrested 21-year-old Umar Ladan, who was allegedly seen wearing a hijab while attempting to break into shops in the town, after failing to give a satisfactory explanation for his conduct.

Habib said all four cases had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation and prosecution, while Aliyu urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activity to security agencies.
