A bitter and very public war has broken out inside the household of late Nollywood comedy legend, John Okafor, better known as Mr Ibu, with his widow, Stella Maris Okafor, and the children he had before their marriage now locked in a dispute over his estate left behind when he died in March 2024.

The conflict, which had apparently been simmering beneath the surface, exploded into public view after Stella appeared in a candid video interview with content creator KingMitchy, where she laid bare the crushing financial reality she and her three children are currently living through.
In the interview, Stella described a household stripped of the most basic comforts.
"We fetch water from the well. Because I have not paid the house rent. And they have even cut my light for two months now. No lights since. We have been like that. Every night we go to look for a place to charge our phones. And… It's not easy," she said.
She added that the crisis had now reached her children's school, saying, "Right now, they can't go to school again. I can even show you the message the school sent me today."
Somtochukwu, who identified himself as Mr Ibu's third son and fourth child, stepped forward with a reaction video of his own that reframed the entire narrative in ways that were as explosive as they were detailed.
Somtochukwu alleged that Stella had not fallen into poverty — that she had, in fact, inherited significant wealth in the form of properties and assets their father left behind, chosen to consolidate control of those assets for herself and her own children, cutting out the children Mr Ibu had from relationships before his marriage to Stella entirely.
"My late father left a lot of properties for all his children, but his wife chose to take everything for herself and her own children. Her actions are becoming something else. My father left many properties for all of us, yet she took control of everything. She even sold my father's house in Lagos for ₦60 million without reaching out to any of his children," Somtochukwu said.
Mr Ibu's death in March 2024, following a prolonged and deeply public health battle that included the amputation of his leg.
