A 40 year old DMK youth wing branch secretary, Periyanayagam, has been arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act for allegedly raping and causing the death of a two and a half years old girl in Tamil Nadu.
He was arrested by the Anchetty police on Friday in Krishnagiri district after an autopsy uncovered the truth behind the toddlers death last December.
"She took the toddler to a private hospital at Anchetty on Dec 11 2025 stating the child had seizures. Doctors declared the child brought dead" the officer said. According to an investigation officer Periyanayagam was having an affair with a 24 year old woman who was separated from her husband and living with her parents.
The young woman had a daughter aged two and a half years in her marriage.
"A postmortem was performed and the autopsy report that was out very recently showed significant internal injuries prompting us to treat the case as a criminal matter," the officer said.
"The girl succumbed to the injuries sustained in the sexual assault" the officer said.
Investigators found that the girls mother was in a relationship with Periyanayagam who sexually assaulted the child while the mother was away.
The biological father of the child lodged a complaint of suspicious death which prompted the investigation that eventually led to the arrest.
Periyanayagam has been produced before the Krishnagiri court and remanded to judicial custody at the Dharmapuri sub jail.
