It was around 8 a.m. on June 20, 2026, when Funmilayo Omoyajowo’s home on Ishorun Street in Agbado-Ekiti was allegedly invaded. She says a group of people, some of whom are still at large, physically assaulted her and left her injured.

Her attackers, she alleges, accused her of witchcraft and falsely blamed her for the death of a local man, Mr Abayo.
According to police, she was then forced to undress and subjected to degrading treatment in an open space. The people involved allegedly recorded the assault and shared the footage on social media to humiliate and defame her.
On September 22, 2026, Omoyajowo petitioned the Ekiti State Police Command. Operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) then arrested five suspects: Tafa Adesanmi, 60; Fatoba Sola, 65; Hassan Yahaya, 43; Bodunde Adebayo, 32; and Titilayo Toyin, 47. All five live in Agbado-Ekiti.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Abutu Sunday, announced the arrests in a statement on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. He said the suspects were being investigated and that efforts were continuing to find the others allegedly involved.
The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, Falade Michael, condemned the alleged acts. He said the command would not tolerate jungle justice, mob violence, or the unlawful sharing of content meant to degrade, intimidate or violate anyone’s dignity.
He stressed that an allegation of witchcraft, or of any other offence, does not justify assault, public humiliation or any inhuman or degrading treatment.
He also warned residents against taking the law into their own hands and urged them to report suspected crimes to the appropriate authorities.
The commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting the lives, dignity and fundamental rights of the state’s residents, and assured the public that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
Police said the case remains under investigation and that the suspects will be prosecuted in accordance with the law once it concludes.
