Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to marry his long-time partner, Georgina Rodriguez, on Saturday, August 8, in Funchal, the capital of Madeira, on the Portuguese island where the football star spent his childhood.
The wedding plans come almost a year after the couple announced their engagement. Reports say they have secured a cathedral in Funchal for the ceremony.
Preparations for the celebration have also affected accommodation arrangements in the city.
The couple has reportedly reserved the Savoy Palace hotel for the reception, with a source saying, “Guests at the hotel have been informed that two floors will be unavailable on Friday and Saturday, along with several bar areas.”
Ronaldo, the former Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus forward, is expected to exchange vows with Rodriguez in a ceremony close to his roots, surrounded by family and guests.
The planned wedding follows weeks of speculation over where the couple would marry.
Earlier reports suggested Ronaldo and Rodriguez would hold the ceremony in Sintra, Portugal, on August 1, but those claims were later dismissed.
