The Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court 1 in Lagos State has remanded a 32-year-old man, Emeka Joseph, at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre over the alleged brutal assault of his 18-year-old partner, Ezaka Chisom Prisellia.

Joseph was arraigned on a three-count charge bordering on assault causing bodily harm, fighting and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on June 21, 2026, at the couple’s residence on Ayomide Street in the Isheri Oshun area of Lagos.
He was arrested at a hospital in Isolo, where he had reportedly taken Chisom for emergency medical treatment after she sustained injuries during the alleged assault.
The case attracted widespread attention following reports and videos circulating on social media, triggering public condemnation and calls for justice.
In response, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) intervened, rescued the teenager and moved her to a protective shelter.
The agency also commenced support and protection measures for the victim while investigations continued.
Investigations further revealed that, contrary to widespread reports, Joseph and Chisom were not legally married.
At the court proceedings, the prosecution informed the court of the allegations against the defendant and the circumstances surrounding his arrest.
The presiding magistrate subsequently ordered that Joseph be remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending further proceedings and adjourned the matter until August 3, 2026, for hearing.
