An 87 year-old woman Maria Agbomabiwon who was arrested for drug trafficking has pled guilty and since then, remanded in prison.

According to Agency report yesterday, November 9, 2017, a Federal High Court in Lagos, on yesterday, remanded 87-year-old woman, Agbomabiwon, in prison custody for dealing in 10.3 kg of Marijuana.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, dragged the accused, who resides at No. 9, Osunba Street, Oto-Awori, Ijaniki, Lagos, to the court, presided by Justice Hadiza Rabiu-Shagari.

In the same court, a similar case of a 56-year-old woman, Anya Nneoma was also heard. Nneoma in her case pleaded guilty for trafficking 5 kg of the restricted narcotics.

According to News Agency of Nigeria reports, both women are facing separate charges with each, bordering on drug trafficking.

Agbomabiwon and Nneoma, were therefore charged with unlawful handling of the prohibited substances, which also is contrary to the provisions of Sections 11(c) of NDLEA Act, Cap. N30, Laws of the Federation, 2004.

After hearing their pleas, the prosecutor, Aliyu Abubakar, urged the court to remand the two accused in Kirikiri Maximum Prisons, pending when the facts of the case is reviewed.

However, the judge granted Abubakar’s urge, ordering that the two women be remanded in prison custody until November 15, when there case would be a reviewed, follwing their sentencing.
