Tor Tiv, the 5th His Royal Majesty, Prof. James Ayatse of Benue state gave out his daughter, Dr Doofan Ayatse’s who is a medical doctor in marriage for just a thousand naira dowry.
Dr Doofan Ayatse got married to Dr David Tsenu Agishi of Etulo, Buruku local government last weekend. The traditional marriage was held at the palace.

The Paramount ruler said during the traditional marriage that no amount of money can buy his daughter all in the name of dowry and that all he is concerned about is the peace, love and progress of the couple not money.
His Royal Majesty, Prof. James Ayatse further revealed that the #1000 dowry will soon be made a law in Tiv land so as to enable even the poor to marry.
The First lady of Benue state, Mrs. Eunice Ortom, had appealed Tov Tiv, earlier this year that there should be a review of high bride-prices in Tiv land so that young men can get married when due.
