The Senate on Wednesday has ordered Nigerian banks to unfreeze the accounts of the former First Lady of Nigeria, Mrs Patience Jonathan.

In the sitting yesterday, the Senate said the bank account of the Mrs Jonathen was frozen based on administrative lapses. It further stressed that her account was frozen without any particular court order.

Senator Samuel Anyanwu who represents PDP, Imo-East became the catalyst for the recent order of the Senate. In his speech, he said bank accounts not limited by any legal process should be re-opened.

While treating the issue, the Senate unravelled that one of Mrs Jonathan’s accounts, the one with Stanbic bank, had gone through the due process and had never breached any legal demand.

The Senate, therefore, ordered that her account with Zenith bank must be unfrozen following a court order that it should be frozen, which had been vacated by another court order.

Members of the Senate made known their displeasure in the manner with which the Economic Financial Crimes Commission shut down accounts without following the demand of the law.

Following this newest development by the Senate, the banks involved have yielded to the Senate’s order to unfreeze the accounts on the vacation order and as demanded by the senate-house.
