Outrage has followed allegations that a woman in Makurdi, Benue State, tortured a minor living in her household with a hot object, in what has been described as a case of child abuse and forced labour.

The alleged incident occurred on the morning of Friday, August 14, 2026, at the Old GRA area of Makurdi, near a fuel station behind Total, according to Benue-based activist Zege Orkwande, who shared details of the case in a Facebook post.
Orkwande said the child, described as a "helper" brought from the village, was allegedly subjected to abuse by the woman he referred to only as "madam."
‘Look at what one madam at Behind Total fuel station, Old GRA Makurdi did to helper she brought from the village. This is evil, slavery and inhumane,’ he wrote.
Describing the broader circumstances of the case, Orkwande wrote: ‘Happened this morning at Old GRA, Makurdi. Child abuse/assault, hard labour and slavery.’
The activist called on the woman to turn herself in to the police rather than wait to be arrested.
‘I'll advise her to respectfully report herself to any divisional police station under Benue State Police Command, Makurdi,’ he said.
He also issued a direct ultimatum, warning of public exposure if action was not taken swiftly.
‘Madam/sir, use 12hrs to act respectfully or I'll drag you online before arrest/prosecution,’ Orkwande warned.
