Manchester United is poised to keep the Rooney name alive at Old Trafford as the club has offered a significant new deal to Wayne Rooney's 16-year-old son, Kai.

The young forward, who has been part of the Red Devils' academy for years and turns 17 in November, has impressed coaches with his progress despite some injury setbacks this season.
According to The Sun, which first reported the development on February 5, 2026, Kai has been presented with a formal one-year scholarship that would allow him to balance education and training before converting to a three-year professional contract.
The proposed package would see Kai earn approximately £50,000 a year along with an annual signing-on fee once he turns professional.
Sources indicate the offer is likely to be finalized in the summer or just before the new season begins. Kai, a left-footed attacker who has featured for United's Under-18s, including making his Old Trafford debut in an FA Youth Cup tie against Derby last month, is seen as a key part of a 'very strong' youth cohort.
He joins 13 other talented prospects in receiving new terms, notably Jacey Carrick, son of current interim manager Michael Carrick.
While the club remains optimistic about Kai's potential to follow in his father's footsteps as one of United's all-time greats, no final agreement has been reached yet.
