Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have arrested six suspected collaborators of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and recovered logistics items believed to support terrorist operations during intelligence-led operations in Borno State between July 27 and July 29.
This is according to a statement by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni.
On July 27, troops of the 5 Brigade arrested the six suspects in Damasak. Preliminary investigations revealed they allegedly generated funds for ISWAP by procuring and selling cattle at markets in Gubio, Damasak and Ajuwango as part of the group's financial network.
Items recovered from the suspects included a Volkswagen Golf vehicle, vehicle keys, four mobile phones, cow meat and ₦317,950 suspected to be proceeds linked to the illegal activities.
The suspects remain in military custody while investigations continue.
In a related development, the family of a senior ISWAP finance operative has begun turning away from the group.
On July 29, troops of the 3 Battalion received the surrender of the wife and 11-year-old son of the commander through Kusuma Village.
The military said the commander, who reportedly served as ISWAP's Chief Finance Officer in Jubillaram, had surrendered on July 25 after escaping from the terrorist enclave, and later instructed his family to surrender as well.
Both mother and child have been screened and are undergoing profiling.
Meanwhile, troops of the 145 Battalion carried out a clearance operation in Turoh after receiving credible intelligence.
The terrorists fled on sighting the advancing troops, abandoning two motorcycles and large quantities of illicit hard drugs believed to be part of their logistics network.
