A domestic incident in Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe State has left a young husband in critical condition and his teenage wife on the run.

Khadija Jamilu, 18, stands accused of attacking her 25-year-old husband with a knife in the early hours of Friday, February 6, 2026, inflicting a severe wound that has sparked widespread concern over rising marital violence.
The assault unfolded around 1:00 a.m., turning what began as a heated argument into a nightmare. The victim was rushed first to the State Specialist Hospital in Potiskum for immediate care before being transferred to the Federal Medical Centre in Azare, Bauchi State, where medical teams continue to treat his deep cut injury to the genital organ.
Friends and family members described the couple as newlyweds navigating the challenges of early marriage.
In a statement issued on Saturday, as reported by Punch, the Police PRO, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, detailed the response.
'On February 6, 2026, at about 0100 hours, the suspect, Khadija Jamilu, an 18-year-old female of Potiskum Local Government Area, allegedly attacked her husband, aged 25 years, using a knife and inflicted a deep cut injury on his genital organ,' the statement partly read.
He added, 'Efforts are in top gear to arrest the fleeing suspect, while investigation into the case is ongoing.' Operatives from the Potiskum Divisional Police Headquarters acted swiftly after receiving a distress call around 3:00 p.m.'
Yobe State Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, condemned the act and offered guidance to prevent such tragedies.
'Marriage should be built on mutual respect, understanding, patience, and tolerance. Marriage must never be an avenue for violence, abuse, or humiliation,' he said.
He further advised, 'Couples and intending spouses should seek proper counselling before and during marriage; embrace peaceful dialogue and anger management during conflicts; involve parents, guardians, religious leaders, or trusted mediators when misunderstandings escalate; and avoid resolving marital disputes through violence, as it often leads to irreversible consequences.'
