A son and his father's former wife have been arraigned before a Kano Magistrate's Court over an alleged conspiracy to kill the man's father.

The prosecution alleged that the suspect, Nura Usman, described as the complainant's son, and Izzatu Aliyu, his father's former wife, conspired with others and offered them N500,000 to kill the complainant, Alhaji Usman Shanono, a resident of Dan Tsinke.
According to the prosecution, the person allegedly contracted to carry out the killing later informed Alhaji Usman that his son and former wife had offered him N500,000 to murder him.
The prosecution further alleged that a plan was subsequently staged to make it appear that Alhaji Usman had been killed, with his wristwatch taken as evidence.
The development reportedly led to the commencement of mourning rites, during which Alhaji Usman suddenly appeared alongside security personnel.
The security operatives then arrested the suspects after it was discovered that the alleged assassination had not taken place.
Nura and Izzatu were brought before Magistrate's Court No. 26, sitting at Nomansland and presided over by Magistrate Sakina Aminu, where they were charged with conspiracy to commit an offence and attempted murder.
Prosecuting counsel, Barrister A.I. Buhari, told the court that it was a fresh charge and sought permission for it to be read to the defendants.
The court granted the request, after which the clerk, Awaisu Jajira, read the charges to the accused persons.
Following the reading of the charges, the prosecutor requested an adjournment to obtain further directives from the government.
The magistrate granted the request and adjourned the case until September 7, 2026, for the re-arraignment of the defendants.
