Nigeria's Senate President, Godswill Akpabio paid tribute to mothers and women across Nigeria on Sunday, March 8, 2026, during International Women’s Day celebrations.
He shared personal memories of his own mother’s role in his life while marking the global event that recognizes women’s achievements and contributions to society.
The message came through a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh.
Akpabio described mothers as one of the greatest blessings given to humanity.
He noted that his leadership path grew from the sacrifices, love, and resilience shown by his mother.
Akpabio said, “I am the biggest beneficiary of the love, care, compassion and sacrifice of a woman. My mother gave her all to raise me to become what I am today. I remain ever grateful and appreciative of what our women and mothers go through in raising their children, supporting the family and building societies.”
He congratulated Nigerian women directly.
He said, “I congratulate the Nigerian Woman on the auspicious occasion of this year’s International Women’s Day.”
Akpabio praised women for nurturing families, sustaining communities, and aiding national development despite facing many challenges.
Women play vital roles in these areas, Akpabio stated, as they continue to support homes and society.
He highlighted their ongoing efforts in family care and broader community building.
