A close family friend of slain four-year-old baby, Nikita, has pledged to continue supporting the child’s mother as the murder case returned to court this week in Eldorado Park, Johannesburg.

The toddler’s parents remain behind bars, following the discovery of the child’s badly injured body in August last year.
According to reports, neighbours alerted authorities after hearing distressing sounds coming from the family’s one-room shack.
When the father allegedly refused to open the door to concerned residents, police were called to the scene.
The pair recently appeared before the Johannesburg High Court, where the matter was postponed to allow the father’s legal team more time to consult with him.
Speaking after the court proceedings, family friend, Russel Thomas, said he believes the mother had been manipulated by her partner and his relatives.
Thomas said he remains committed to standing by the mother throughout the legal process.
“If I believed she had anything to do with this, I would never have come to support her,” he said, adding that he has attended every court appearance and continues to visit her regularly.
He claimed she had previously withdrawn a case against the accused after allegedly being pressured by him and his family.
The case has been postponed to 19 March for further proceedings.
