* A Nasarawa State court remanded the primary suspect in police custody.
In the bustling Masaka area of Nasarawa State, routine enforcement turned into a nightmare on February 10, 2026, around 1:00 pm as Abdul Ishaka, a dedicated Customer Representative Officer with the Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc at the Karshi Service Center, approached a customer’s premises to address an illegal reconnection.

The customer, Mrs. Laraba Waziri, had reportedly 'hung' her service wire to restore power after disconnection for non-payment, with records showing an outstanding debt of N272,499.47.
Mrs. Laraba Waziri allegedly rallied her son and his friends to confront and attack Ishaka for questioning the illegal bypass.
The assault was ferocious, leaving the officer unconscious on the ground, his body battered as neighbors watched in horror or helplessness.
Ishaka was rushed first to Emmanuel Baptist Clinic for emergency first aid, then transferred to the Federal Medical Center in Keffi, where he remains admitted and receiving treatment.
Colleagues and family members expressed deep concern for his recovery, describing him as a hardworking family man whose only crime was performing his lawful job.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc issued a statement on Thursday, February 12, 2026, detailing the attack and raising fresh concerns regarding the safety of electricity utility personnel in the country.
The statement noted that Ishaka was beaten to a state of unconsciousness while carrying out a lawful enforcement duty in the state.
Swift police action followed.
'In a swift response to the violent act, the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) personally intervened, directing the Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police to fast-track the investigation,' the AEDC statement revealed.
The primary suspect, Mrs. Laraba Waziri, was detained and arraigned before the Senior Magistrate Court, Auta Balefi.
'The primary suspect was detained and arraigned before the Senior Magistrate Court, Auta Balefi, where she has been remanded in police detention until other suspects who are at large are apprehended,' the statement added.
The attack has intensified calls for better protection of utility staff amid rising incidents of resistance to disconnections.
