* The father faces upgraded charges following the child's death.
* The mother had repeatedly warned authorities about the father's dangerous ways.
Little Maliek Williams, a sweet 2-year-old described by his family as the light of their lives, tragically passed away on Wednesday night, February 4, 2026, at Weill Cornell Medical Center after fighting for days on a ventilator.

His heartbroken mother, Cyndy Williams, shared the unbearable news on Instagram: 'My baby is gone. 2/4/2026 10:26 p.m. I have nothing else to say. I’m done.'
Law enforcement sources confirmed the toddler's death to multiple outlets, including NY1 and NBC New York, as the Queens community grieved the loss of an innocent child caught in unimaginable violence.
The nightmare began late Friday, January 30, at the Manhattan View Hotel in Long Island City, operating as a homeless shelter, where 30-year-old Dayvon Morrison allegedly beat his son while drunk.
Prosecutors from the Queens District Attorney’s Office detailed in court that Maliek suffered a blown right pupil, a laceration to his liver, pelvic fracture, multiple brain bleeds, brain swelling, and damage to his brain stem.
Instead of seeking immediate help, Morrison reportedly placed the bruised toddler in a stroller and wandered through Queens and East Harlem for three days.
A witness at his mother's East Harlem apartment noticed the boy's dire condition and called 911 early Monday, February 2, leading to Morrison's arrest.
During his arraignment on Wednesday, February 4, Morrison pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and assault charges and was held without bail.
Prosecutors noted he allegedly told police: “If you’re gonna put me in cuffs, that’s fine. I was drunk the other night.”
He claimed he did not remember the beating due to intoxication.
Assistant District Attorney Caitlyn Muldoon outlined the injuries, and an office representative emailed Thursday, February 5: 'Reiterating what was said in court yesterday by ADA Caitlyn Muldoon that if the child succumbed, we intend to submit upgraded charges.'
