Man Jailed 12 Years After R@ping One Woman While on Bail

A judge at Swansea Crown Court has sentenced a 30-year-old man to an extended 12-year term after he r@ped one woman and s3xually assaulted another while out on bail for the first offence.

Olukanyinsola Odebode, of Gainsborough Road, Cefn Golau, Tredegar, was convicted at trial of one count of rape and two counts of assault by penetration, the court heard, according to a Wales Online report on Saturday.

The offences took place between June 2024 and September 2025.

Odebode s3xually assaulted and raped one woman in the Gwent Police area before his arrest and release on bail.

He went on to sexually assault a second woman in the Dyfed-Powys Police area.

Prosecuting, Mark Wyeth KC told the court that Odebode posed a danger to women and that his actions had caused "life-altering consequences for his victims."

He said a Probation Service report pointed to Odebode's lack of insight into his offending and his "complete rejection" of the jury's findings, concluding that he "poses a high risk of serious harm underpinned by attitudes of entitlement."

The court also heard victim impact statements describing how the assaults had affected the two women.

One of them described Odebode as "very predatory."

Prosecutors further told the court that seven other women had raised concerns about Odebode's sexual behaviour with police since 2019, including allegations of rape, indecent exposure, sexual assault and stalking, though none of those cases resulted in convictions.

Odebode had no previous convictions.

Odebode denied any wrongdoing and forced his victims to give evidence at trial, where he was described as having "humiliated and degraded his victims."

His lawyer, Matt Murphy, told the court it was hoped Odebode would develop greater insight into his offending while serving his sentence.

Judge Huw Rees said he had concluded, based on the evidence and reports before him, that Odebode was a "sexually precocious person" whose behaviour had a "profound" effect on his two victims.

He noted the concerns raised by a probation officer about Odebode's lack of insight and ruled that an extended sentence was necessary given the risk he posed to the public.

Odebode was sentenced to a 12-year extended term, comprising nine years in custody followed by three years on licence.

He must serve two-thirds of the custodial term before he can apply for release, a decision that will rest with the Parole Board.

He will remain on the sex offenders' register for life.
