In the corridors of Calabar's legislative power, Cross River State lawmaker, Dickson Ovat Agbor, representing Obubra I Constituency, found himself escorted out of the chamber on March 5, 2026, after his colleagues voted for his indefinite suspension amid explosive allegations of assaulting his wife.

The incident, reportedly sparked by accusations of infidelity, occurred on February 28, 2026, at the Assembly quarters, drawing sharp condemnation and thrusting the House into a rare moment of self-policing.
PUNCH NEWSPAPER first highlighted the development, with journalist Agba Jalingo detailing the alleged domestic violence that left the community reeling.
The Cross River State House of Assembly acted decisively during plenary on Thursday. Davies Etta moved the motion, seconded by Francis Bassey Asuquo, condemning the alleged violent conduct as unbecoming of a lawmaker.
Etta stated, "We must ensure that members conduct themselves in a manner that reflects the values and responsibilities entrusted to us by the people."
After deliberations, the House resolved to place Agbor on indefinite suspension from all legislative activities.
It constituted an ad hoc committee to probe the allegations thoroughly and report findings for further action.
The suspension remains in force pending the committee's outcome.
Sergeant-at-Arms escorted Agbor from the chamber in compliance with the directive.
Speaker Elvert Ayambem addressed the development firmly, "The House will not condone any form of misconduct capable of bringing the legislature into disrepute. We must continue to uphold the dignity of this institution."
Ayambem emphasized that members must reflect the trust reposed in them by the people, underscoring the Assembly's commitment to discipline, dignity, and integrity.
