A Lagos hairstylist known simply as Elvis has lost his life in a robbery attack that has left his community shaken, after he was shot dead by suspected armed robbers around Alesh Market in the Ajah area of Lagos State.

The tragedy occurred on Saturday evening as Elvis was making his way home from work, unaware that danger awaited him just steps from the market.
A police source who confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Tuesday explained how the attack unfolded.
"A report was made that he was returning from his place of work when the robbers attacked him. He resisted and was shot in the head. Efforts are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and apprehend the perpetrators," the source said.
According to the source, Elvis was not the only victim that evening, as the robbers, whose exact number remains unknown, also attacked and dispossessed other passersby of their belongings around the market.
For residents in the area, Elvis's death is the latest in a string of frightening incidents that have left many on edge.
One resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, shared just how deep that fear runs.
"There have been frequent cases of harassment and robbery in this area. People are being harassed and robbed of their belongings. People are worried," the resident said.
The resident went further, calling on authorities to step up security efforts before things get worse.
"Only if there can be increased police patrols in the area, especially around the market at night, will incidents reduce. The boys are gradually going out of control," the resident added.
When contacted on Tuesday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the incident but said no arrests had yet been made.
"Confirmed. No suspect yet. Investigation is ongoing," she said.
