The Kebbi State Government has finalised plans to sponsor a mass wedding for 300 couples in the third edition of its marriage support programme, with each groom set to receive ₦250,000 in dowry.

Alhaji Suleiman Muhammad Argungu, Chairman of the Mass Wedding Committee, announced the development to journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.
He said the 300 beneficiaries were drawn from the state's 21 local government areas and 225 wards following a screening process.
According to him, the programme organised by the state government in partnership with the NANAS Foundation, founded by the wife of Governor Nasir Idris, is open to all qualified indigenes regardless of ethnic or religious background.
Argungu disclosed that each groom will receive ₦250,000 as dowry in line with Islamic law, and that all intending couples will undergo compulsory medical screening to assess their health and compatibility before the ceremony.
He added that local government committees have been instructed to confirm that every groom has a reliable source of income sufficient to support a family.
The mass wedding ceremony is scheduled to be held in Birnin Kebbi and will be attended by Governor Nasir Idris, Islamic clerics, and other dignitaries.
Argungu further revealed that the NANAS Foundation will provide the newlyweds with beds, mattresses, food items and other household essentials to help them start their married life.
He said a monitoring committee has also been set up to oversee the couples' welfare after the wedding and ensure the donated items are put to proper use.
