Legendary gospel singer and worship leader Dr Ron Kenoly was more than just a voice in church music — he was a man who lived out his faith in deep connection with his family and community. Known worldwide for uplifting praise music that filled churches and hearts across generations, Kenoly’s personal story was deeply rooted in family, heritage and passing on his gift to the next generation.

Born Ronald Kenoly on December 6 1944 in Coffeyville Kansas, he grew up with music woven into his upbringing. His mother Edith was a singer and church worker who prayed over his life even before he was born saying “Lord let this one praise you.” That early connection to music and faith set the tone for a life centered around worship and devotion.
While Kenoly became a global figure in gospel music his success was never disconnected from his roles as a husband and father. He met his first wife Tavita while serving in the United States Air Force and together they raised three sons Samuel Ronald Jr and Tony. This family unit was a part of his journey in ministry as they stood beside him through the growing seasons of his music career.
In interviews Kenoly spoke with joy and pride about how music became a family legacy. His sons The Kenoly Brothers - Ron Jr and Sam - were inspired by their father’s work and began recording their own music as part of the next chapter in the family’s story. Kenoly described it as a profound joy to see them not just succeed musically but also step into ministry roles with purpose and passion.
Family for Kenoly went beyond blood alone. His marriage to Diana a United Nations Ambassador later in life added another layer of partnership that reflected his values of love service and mutual support. Together they shared moments of ministry travel teaching and mentoring young worship leaders around the world.
Even as his global influence extended far beyond his household the heart of his life remained anchored in family. Songs like “Lift Him Up” and “Jesus Is Alive” echoed in churches everywhere but his home was where his faith and legacy were nurtured and passed on.
When news broke of Kenoly’s death at age 81 on February 3 2026 the outpouring of tributes from artists pastors and worshippers around the world affirmed his impact. But through all the accolades and honours it was his family that stood closest to his legacy living proof of a life devoted not just to music but to love service and faith expressed in both his public ministry and his private home.
