
'Everything I did was driven by the desire to give him opportunities I never had,' she explained while working as a cashier in Bahrain in 2019, with her nine year old son back home.
'In a short period, I went from being a working mother abroad to a single mother of two with no stable support system and no clear direction,' she recounted after the relationship collapsed, leaving her pregnant and forced to return to Kenya without savings.
The descent into homelessness unfolded gradually from a relationship breakdown, financial strain and the challenges of restarting alone prompting her to sell household items just to survive.
'I refused to let that chapter define my future. I made a decision that I would rise again not just for myself but for my children. I don’t come from a rich family. I don’t have any backup or inheritance. It has always been me versus me,' Joyce stated.
