In the quiet farming villages of Nuku and Woro in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, families gathered for burials under heavy hearts after a devastating terrorist attack on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
Gunmen stormed the communities in the evening, targeting residents who refused extremist demands, leaving homes burned, loved ones slain, and many women and children abducted or missing.
Survivors recounted hiding in terror as gunfire echoed through the night, forever changing lives that revolved around simple routines of prayer, work, and family.
Vice President Kashim Shettima led a Federal Government delegation on Saturday to commiserate with the grieving people.
“We are here on behalf of President Tinubu to commiserate with the people of Kwara State over this tragic loss,” Shettima said.
He noted the incident shocked Nigerians and assured that President Bola Tinubu ordered the deployment of a Nigerian Army battalion to restore peace, while directing the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide relief to displaced residents.
“All hands are on deck,", he added.
Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, chairman of the North-East Governors’ Forum, shared words of solace drawn from shared pain in insurgency-affected regions.
“As Muslims, we believe in destiny, but it is our sincere prayer that this kind of tragedy will not happen again,” Zulum told victims’ families.
