* A grand jury indicted Stevenson on February 2, 2026, leading to his arrest and high bail.
William Stevenson, 77, the man once married to former First Lady Jill Biden, now sits in custody accused of taking the life of his current wife as New Castle County police in Delaware announced that a grand jury indicted Stevenson on one count of first-degree murder in the death of Linda Stevenson, 64.

He was taken into custody Monday without incident at his home and is being held at Howard Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $500,000 cash bail, according to police.
The story began on the night of December 28 when officers responded to a reported domestic dispute at the couple's residence in the Wilmington area finding Linda unresponsive in the living room.
Despite lifesaving measures by officers at the scene, she could not be revived.
Her body was turned over to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science for an autopsy, though no cause of death has been publicly released in connection with the charges.
Loved ones remember Linda as a deeply family-oriented woman and a passionate Philadelphia Eagles fan. In her obituary, she was celebrated for founding a small bookkeeping business in her later years.
The arrest followed an "extensive weeks-long investigation" by detectives from the New Castle County Police Division’s Criminal Investigations Unit, working with the Delaware Department of Justice.
The grand jury's indictment alleges Stevenson "did intentionally cause the death" of his wife, police stated. It remains unclear if he has retained an attorney.
