A family in Awi, Calabar, Cross River State, was left grieving on Monday night after 20-year-old, Uwem Daniel Akpan, died following an alleged stabbing during a disagreement.

Following the incident, the Cross River State Police Command arrested a 16-year-old male suspect in connection with Akpan's death.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigators work to establish what led to the fatal incident, according to the command's spokesperson, ASP Sunday Eitokpah.
Akpan was reportedly involved in a misunderstanding with another person at Peters Street, Awi, at about 7:30pm on August 31, 2026, when the incident occurred.
He was rushed to the Naval Reference Hospital, Calabar, in an attempt to save his life, but doctors later confirmed his death.
His remains were subsequently recovered by members of his family.
Eitokpah said the police had commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged stabbing and the suspect's involvement, adding that the case was being processed for transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Calabar, for further investigation and appropriate legal action.
The police spokesperson appealed to members of the public to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands.
He assured the public that the circumstances surrounding Akpan's death would be thoroughly investigated, adding that further information would be released as the investigation progresses and more facts emerge.
