A family says they are “lucky to be alive” after discovering a dangerous gas leak at their newly built home in Newquay, Cornwall.

According to VOICE (CORNWALL), a gas cooker in the property on the Pleasant View development was improperly installed, leaving the household exposed to a potentially fatal leak since they moved in 18 months ago.
Casey Singleton, who lives at the Ocean Housing property in Trevemper with his wife Liliana and their three young children, called the gas emergency service on Saturday, March 14, after smelling gas in the kitchen.
An engineer found a leak at the cooker and isolated the pipe, reportedly noting that a crucial olive seal had not been fitted.

Mr. Singleton believes his family’s illnesses over the past months, which include headaches, his wife’s recurring symptoms, and his one‑year‑old son’s hospitalisation for dehydration and breathing problems, may be linked to prolonged gas exposure.
Their six‑year‑old daughter also suffers from a persistent cough and asthma.
Ocean Housing has agreed to conduct checks on all 49 homes it owns in the development as a precaution and will cover the cost of the engineer called in by the Singletons.
A spokesperson said they take health and safety seriously and expect developers and contractors to comply with industry standards.
Wain Homes, the developer, said it is reviewing the issue with contractors while the matter is under investigation.
