An eight-year-old boy has been placed under protective care after he was allegedly physically abused by his biological mother in the Alakuko area of Lagos State.

The incident, which was reported to the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) on Tuesday, June 16, prompted an immediate response from the agency.
According to preliminary findings, the child sustained multiple injuries after his mother allegedly used a blade to inflict wounds on him over accusations that he had stolen money from her.
Concerned members of the community intervened, rescued the child and ensured he received urgent medical attention before alerting the relevant authorities.
The suspect was subsequently apprehended, while investigations and legal proceedings were initiated.
The matter was arraigned before a Lagos State Magistrate Court on Wednesday, June 17.
Following the hearing, the court ordered that the child and his sibling be placed in protective custody at an approved child protection facility to safeguard their welfare pending the outcome of the case.
The defendant was granted bail under conditions set by the court, while the matter was adjourned until July 23, 2026, for further hearing.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency commended residents, law enforcement officers and child protection stakeholders for their swift intervention, noting that their actions played a critical role in ensuring the child's safety and advancing the case through the legal process.
The agency also reiterated the importance of prompt reporting and community vigilance in protecting vulnerable children from abuse and other forms of violence.
