Customs Officer's Family Left in Mourning After Fatal Pothole Accident on Ikom-Calabar Highway

A family in Cross River State is coming to terms with sudden loss after 54-year-old Customs officer Etteng Ise died in a car accident along the Ikom-Calabar Highway on Monday, September 7.

Ise, who served at the Mfum Border in Etung Local Government Area of Cross River State, was reportedly trying to avoid a pothole when he lost control of his vehicle, sending it veering off the road and into the bush, where it collided with a tree.

The accident occurred near Alesi Village in Ikom Local Government Area at about 2:56 p.m, according to Sunday Eitokpah, the police spokesperson in Cross River, who confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Calabar the same day.

Eitokpah, an assistant superintendent of police, explained how the crash unfolded, saying Ise swerved to avoid the pothole before losing control of the vehicle.

Following the crash, Ise was rushed to Holy Family Hospital, Ikom, where he was confirmed dead by attending doctors, leaving colleagues and family to grapple with the sudden nature of his passing.

Eitokpah said Ise's remains had been deposited at the hospital mortuary as his family comes to terms with the tragic loss of their loved one.
