A 37-year-old Abia State man faces attempted murder charges after allegedly beating a woman over a dispute about a pot of soup, a shocking act of violence that may have gone unnoticed had a video not swept across social media and landed squarely in the hands of police.

Agwu Ukpo, a native of Akanu Ohafia in the Ohafia Local Government Area, was arrested by operatives of the Abia State Police Command's Violent Crime Response Unit after the footage went viral, showing him allegedly attacking a woman identified as Amarachi Chinyere.
The command's Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the arrest in a statement Sunday, saying officers moved swiftly once intelligence pointed them to the suspect.
"Leveraging actionable intelligence, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit, Abia Command, have apprehended the above-mentioned suspect, who was captured in a viral video assaulting one Amarachi Chinyere over a dispute relating to a pot of soup," Chinaka said.
Ukpo is currently being investigated at the State Criminal Investigation Department, where authorities say charges of assault and attempted murder are being considered pending the outcome of the probe.
"The case is currently under discreet investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department, and the suspect will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations," the statement read.
The police command did not mince words in its response to the incident, describing it as a "barbaric and inhumane act of domestic violence," signaling how seriously authorities are treating the case.
"The Abia State Police Command once again strongly condemns this barbaric and inhumane act of domestic violence and reiterates the fact that such behaviour is unacceptable under any circumstances," Chinaka said.
She also issued a pointed warning to the public: "Members of the public are hereby urged to desist from all forms of violence, as the Command remains fully committed to ensuring justice is served in the state and that perpetrators of crime will be made to face the wrath of the law."
