The Airport Police Command has arrested a 17-year-old male suspect, Benjamin Daniel, in connection with the sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl at Sabo Masalashi area, Bassa, Abuja.

According to the report, the suspect, who resides in Angua Mandala, allegedly lured the victim into his room under the pretext of purchasing some of the soya bean cake she was selling, where he sexually assaulted her.
The command disclosed the arrest in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command in Ikeja, Lagos, Mohammed Adeola, which was posted on its official X account on Friday.
Adeola added that the incident was reported by the victim's mother at the Abuja Airport Police Division.
‘Upon receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer, Abuja Airport Police Division, immediately advised the victim's parents, facilitated her prompt medical attention, and mobilised personnel to locate and arrest the suspect,’ the statement said.
‘The suspect was subsequently arrested and remains in police custody as investigation continues. His statement was obtained in the presence of his mother, in accordance with applicable procedures for handling juvenile suspects.
‘The Command has also ensured that appropriate measures are being taken to safeguard the welfare and well-being of the victim, while the suspect will be brought before a juvenile court of competent jurisdiction upon conclusion of the investigation,’ the statement added.
Condemning the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Airport Police Command, Olufunke Ogunbode, reiterated the command's zero tolerance for rape, sexual assault and all forms of sexual violence.
‘She directed the DPO to ensure that all necessary steps are taken to protect the victim and facilitate justice in accordance with the law,’ the statement added.
