The woman spoke to reporters in Owerri, Imo state on the 19th of October 2017. She said girls from the age of 10 in the community are due for female genital mutilation.

Nwanebu said the life of her daughters was important to her as they have reached to the age of circumcision.

Mrs Nwanebu said: “my community normally circumcises female children from the age of 10 years and above. It is now their turn and they are calling for them and we are running away.

“Our fear is that our twin daughters, Treasure Chidimma and Favour Chiemela Nwanebu, might be harmed health wise and that is why we are working hard to take them away, where their eyes will not see our children.”
