Trader in Nassarawa beats Neighbour’s Wife beyond recognition

A trader identified as Chidi Isreal 37, was on Tuesday arraigned in a Mararaba Grade 1 Area Court sitting in Aso Pada, for the alleged physical assault on his neighbour’s wife, Mrs Chioma Michael.

The trader who resides at Aku village Base 1 Mararaba, Nasarawa State, had pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of assault, intentional insult and intimidation levelled against him.

Prosecutor, Agabi Auta reported that the defendant committed the offences on August 19 at his residence in Mararaba.

Auta said that Michael reported the incidence at the Mararaba ‘A’ Divisional Police Station, on the same date.

Auta said the defendant assaulted his co-tenant by beating her beyond recognition after an argument.

The prosecutor also reported that the complainant was saved by neighbours who were at home as at the time of the incidence, while the case was reported to the police and the defendant was arrested.

Auta said that the offences contravened Sections 240, 399 and 397of the Penal Code.

Presiding Judge, Albert Maga, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the matter till September 5 for further hearing.
