Three primary school students were killed and a teacher was injured when a machete-wielding man stormed a school in Borno state.
The school, Jafi Primary School has now been shut, and the attacker arrested.
The attack happened at about 9:30 am during break time, according to The Punch.
Kasimu Ibrahim and Habibu Suleiman who witnessed the attack spoke to AFP on Thursday.
Kasimu Ibrahim, who lives near the primary school, said the attacker – a man in his 30s – headed to the nursery section of the school.
Kasimu said: “He entered a class and began attacking pupils. He hacked two boys to death, aged about five and seven.”
He also said, a third victim – an eight-year-old girl – died on the way to a hospital in neighbouring Gombe state.
The teacher who managed to raise an alarm was struck in the hand and the attacker was overpowered.
Habibu Suleiman, who also lives nearby, gave a similar account.
Both said police took the attacker into custody and then to a hospital, where he was under armed guard.
