‘The fans don’t deserve this’: President Of Rwanda Blasts Arsenal after loss to Brentford
Arsenal supporters are not alone in their dissatisfaction with the north London club’s poor start to the Premier League, as the president of Rwanda, an East African country that is one of the club’s sponsors, slammed their performance on Twitter.
Paul Kagame resorted to social media to launch an extraordinary outburst against Mikel Arteta’s team, who were humiliated on the first day of the season by newly-promoted Brentford.
‘The game itself aside Arsenal and the fans don’t deserve to kind of get used to this….NO !!!’ President Kagame wrote. ‘It’s been a struggle of about decade(s) -ups&downs-more downs until this point.’
The ‘Visit Rwanda’ emblem is displayed on the left sleeve of all Arsenal shirts as a sleeve sponsor.
After Friday’s 2-0 loss, Kagame demanded that the club make changes.
‘We just must NOT excuse or Accept mediocrity. A team has to be built with a purpose to win win-win. So that when we lose….it was not to be expected! I am sure we all know on whose shoulders the heaviest burden rests. I hope they know too or even accept it!!!’
Arsenal’s day started horribly when Aubameyang and Lacazette were ruled out due to sickness, and with Thomas Partey and Gabriel also out, it was a lot more haphazard Gunners team than manager Mikel Arteta had envisioned for the start of the season.
Brentford did not have to wait long to start playing in the Premier League. When Caleb Chambers hacked the ball away from the byline, it was returned to Canos by Ethan Pinnock, who cut inside the defender and buried a low shot inside Bernd Leno’s near post.
They extended their lead with 15 minutes remaining, but it was a terrible goal for Arsenal to concede.
They were guilty of allowing a long throw from Mads Bech Sorensen to bounce in the six-yard box, allowing Norgaard to head into an empty net.
Arsenal, who have failed to qualify for any European competition this season, will play Chelsea, the current Champions League holder, on August 22.
