At least six family members have been found dead in their home in the city of Madurai in Southern India after committing suicide, over a debt officials released on Monday.
A report said they left a suicide note which revealed a debt being owed as the cause of suicide.
However, two more family members were rescued from their residence in a critical state late Sunday night and were being treated at the hospital, an administration official, Veera Rao, added.

The six family members were said to have owned a school but had all committed suicide by consuming poison. Police found a suicide note that said they were under a huge loan default, Rao added.
According to the police, the note revealed that the family had made a request to authorities to sell their property in order to offset the debts they owed.
However, the police in India are still investigating if the family was under pressure from any private money lenders.

The city of Madurai is said to be known for its notorious and unscrupulous money-lenders in spite a state-government ban. Local media have reported in recent times, the number of cases of harassment by money-lenders.
