Shocking: Man jailed for stealing #1, 000 corn
An Akure Magistrate’s Court in Ondo State has sentenced a man, identified as Busuyi Ajibola, to two months imprisonment for stealing maize worth N1, 000.
Ajibola reportedly committed the offence at Ago Ego along Akure- Idanre Road, in Ondo State capital on July 30, 2017.
The convict was arraigned on one-count of stealing.
He was described as a notorious thief that had carried out numerous ‘operations’ in Akure and its environs.
The police in charge of the matter had earlier told the court that the offence committed by the convict was contrary to and punishable under Section 390 of the Criminal Code Cap 37. Vol.1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
Ajibola pleaded guilty to the one-count charge when it was read to him.
His lawyer, Grace Obanigba, however, pleaded the court to temper justice with mercy.
She said the convict was a family man and that the court should consider his wife and children.
In her ruling, the Judge, Mrs Oluwafunmi Edwin, said,” on closer look at the charge and the fact of the case, it was glaring that the convict committed the act deliberately, thus, he was found guilty”
Mrs Edwin ruled that Ajibola should be jailed for two months.
