The Regional Commissioner (RC) of Tanzania, John Mongella has said pregnant teenagers will be arrested.
Speaking on Monday at a meeting attended by regional education stakeholders, the Regional Commissioner said schoolgirls found pregnant in the region should be arrested and taken to court.
He said there is every tendency that the teenagers will not want to reveal the name of the person that got them pregnant.
He said, ”There have been a tendency of pregnant school girls not to mention the name of a person who impregnated them. This is a challenge when one is required to testify in court.”

It will be recalled that the president of Tanzania, John Magufuli had in June 2017 upheld a 2002 law that banned pregnant schoolgirls from returning to school after they might have delivered their baby.
The law and the move by the President have been described by many as an infringement against the human rights of girls in the country.
The President also added that men who impregnated schoolgirls should be imprisoned for 30 years.
