Family members of the kidnapped Managing Director of Ogba Zoological Garden, Dr Andy Ehanire (brother to Minister of State for Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire) have cried out for the speedy intervention of the Nigerian Police Force to ensure the safe release of their family member and called for prayers for the deceased men of the Nigerian police.
According to Guardian report on this incident, three police officers guiding tourist at the zoo were killed after five heavily armed gunmen stormed the zoological garden.

Speaking about the incident, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Edo State, Moses Nkombe said that his men were on the case even though they were yet to make an arrest.
Reacting to the kidnap in great shock, Ehanire’s family noted that as at the time of this report, they were yet to get any phone call from the abductor of their family member.

The Commissioner of Police Mr Haliru Gwandu who also made a visit to the crime scene noted that the men that carried out this operation were militants, making a vow that they will soon be arrested.
“It was an unfortunate incidence. We lost three of our personnel. This is the activity of militants. They came and unfortunately killed our policemen but we are on the trail of the hoodlums. We are using all available means including high-tech to fish out the perpetrators,”
In the same vein, the members of Edo Forum of Patriots, (EFP) called on the Police to get into action and ensure the release of Ehanire. Making this thought of theirs known in a letter signed by the Forum’s chairman, Interim Management Committee, Ayamenkhue Edokpolo, condemned the incident, calling for the speedy rescue of Ehanire.

The group wrote.
“While we mourn the three policemen who lost their lives in active service, we do make a passionate call to the law enforcement agencies particularly the Nigerian Police Force to swing into action and ensure the safe and timely rescue of our brother from these anti-Edo elements who are obviously targeting our prominent sons and daughters.
“Our State has witnessed more than enough of this deadly act in recent times, like the brutal kidnap of Mr Omoruyi Oloten, Mr Dan Odiete, among others. We hope the police can put a stop to this criminality to avoid a situation whereby our people may have to resort to self-help.”
