The National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) on Thursday said women from all works of life would march for peace on October 1, Nigeria’s Independence Day.

At a news conference in Abuja, the president of the NCWS, Mrs Gloria Shoda, said the coalition was made up of members of Change Managers International Network and 100 Women Lobby Group who will march in collaboration with NCWS come October 1.

Speaking about the significance of the march for peace, Shoda said Nigerian women were concerned about the present state of affairs in the country and hence decided to rise with one voice to ensure that the country remained peaceful.

Speaking further about the reason for the establishment of the coalition, she said “this coalition was born in response to growing wave of hate speeches and violence against the backdrop of the current ethnic tensions in the country.

“Government at all levels had been tasked with the responsibility of promoting and protecting freedom of expression.

“We hope for a better Nigeria where every individual has equal opportunities to be the best they can be for themselves and their communities.

She finally She urged women and youths to be in white clothes on October 1 from 6 a.m. till midnight as a sign of peace in the country.
