MY MOTHER WAS A FIRM BELIEVER IN EDUCATION AS A TOOL FOR LIBERATION – MUSILIU OBANIKORO
A former Senator and Nigerian former High Commissioner to Ghana, Musiliu Obanikoro, has said that his late mother, Alhaja Wasilat Obanikoro, is a disciplinarian and believed in education as a tool for liberation.
The former senator made this known to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos. Speaking to the correspondents of NAN he said, his mother made a great impact on the lives of people around her and her children.
Alhaja Wasilat Obanikoro who died at 95 in the early hours of Saturday was according to her son, Musiliu Obanikoro to have been a firm believer and disciplinarian.
Musiliu said he has come to see his mother to be a generous woman who had touched so many lives and likewise a very hardworking mother during all of her time on earth.
The former Nigerian Ambassador to Ghana said his mother was a focused woman who is bent on doing whatever she believe is right. She is also a devout Muslim he said. Musiliu however, said that his peace was in the fact that she lived an impacting life and left good legacies behind for her children to follow.
“Mama was highly disciplined, hardworking and very religious.
“She saw social, economic and spiritual liberation in education despite the fact that she did not attend school early enough in life.
“Her focus was more on academic and religious education.
“She was very generous and was never perturbed by criticisms. She will be missed by all of us,” he said.
Reports from NAN indicated that some prominent Nigerians were in attendance at the Ikoyi Cemetry on Saturday. The former governor of Oyo state Mr. Alao Akala, Senator Gbenga Ashafa (APC National Legal Adviser), Mr. Musiliu Smith and some other prominent Nigerians.
