Medical experts lament over inadequate facilities and lack of personnel

Centre for Human Security and Dialogue, organized a discussion on Sustainable
Development Goal Number 3, on Thursday at Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library,
Abeokuta.

Where Experts in the health sector gathered to identify inadequate facilities, and
personnel as the base issues among others as factors weighing war against healthcare in
Nigeria.

They all focused on ‘The State of health security in Nigeria in relation to Sustainable
Development Goal 3’, as a topic of the day.

Prof. Adewale Musa, the Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, grieve
over the negligence of the people in the rural communities.

Adewale, made mention of inadequate medical personnel, how auxiliary nurses have
taken over many rural medical centres as this left many communities in terrible shape.
The medical director said it is unpalatable to hear that this people in the rural areas who
are producing the food, are the one lacking good health care.

He added that the health sector has been suffering due to persistent strikes, a lack of
adequate standard data to plan and insecurity.

The Director, Centre for Human Security and Dialogue, OOPL, Prof. Peter Okebukola,
said the aims of the discussion were to focus on the hopes of the global community on
SDG number 3 and report current actualities in health security in relation to the
attainment of SDG 3.

Government was advised on the need to embrace universal health coverage of all citizens,
introduce community-based health insurance, full integration of all health services and
adequate training and re-training of all cadres of health workers.
