At times when relating on any issue with your children or wife, caution needs to be taken. That you are the father of the house doesn’t make you the family’s autocrat. Fathers are meant to take charge of situations and not become an autocrat.
Here is a story of a father who shot himself in the leg while trying to correct his wife and child. Kindly read.
Mr Ajayi returned home from work.
He became so tired. He sat down on the sofa. Placed his feet up and then, his wife brought him a glass of water. His son at the same time, wouldn’t allow him to rest at all. He handed him a sheet of paper.
Like he wasn’t expecting it, it was an examination report sheet.
He began reading.
English Language – 17%
Biology – 35%
Mathematics – 40%
Physics – 37%
Chemistry – 42%
Economics – 12%
Agric. Science – 19%
Religion Knowledge. ABS
Geography – 22%
After reading through, he lost his temper and began yelling:
“What is this?
All the time on phone and TV.
How dare you show me such marks?”
His Wife in response said: “Be patient. Listen….”
He told her:
It’s your love and pampering that has spoilt him. He is no good and never serious at all.”
His Wife said: “Oh! Really?”
“No one in our family has performed so badly ever.”
Bayo, his son who was amazed at his father’s thought about the sheet then interjected and added:
“Dad, I am sorry. I was cleaning the old cupboard and I found this.”
“This is your old school report card, dated 27th July, 1980 sir.”
3 Lesson to be learnt by father here.
- Don’t ever be the autocratic kind of Husband it wouldn’t pay your family at all. Be firm and soft-pedal at times on your strict decisions.
2.You should never shout down your wife or child. Whenever you do so, you are in a way killing them gradually without knowing.
3. Jumping to hasty conclusion can be very wrong and maybe disastrous for you as a family head. That someone told you something about your family or child shouldn’t translate into you thinking of punishing your ‘own’. You can actually correct in love ‘without a stab on the heart’.
