The ousted Vice President of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa who went on exile to South Africa due to threat to his life has finally been sworn in as Zimbabwe’s president in a stadium-packed ceremony today in Harare.

The event which brought in a new phase to Zimbabwe‘s political history has left Zimbabweans in awe as Mugabe’s 37-year rule exits the minds of the people.

The ruling party in Zimbabwe, ZANU -PF was forced to step into the situation with army taking charge of the country earlier in November, forcing Mr Mugabe to quit office.

The country’s newly elected president, Emmerson Mnangagwa, who had fled the country, returned from exile on Wednesday, 22nd of November 2017 and has now been sworn-in as the new president.

In his speech, he said his government will tame the smuggling of goods, adding that all citizens will be secured and have a good sense of belonging in the country.

Mr Mnangagwa for a long time has been in the seat of power with Mugabe and records has associated him with some of the worst atrocities committed under the ruling Zanu-PF party since the country gained independence in 1980.

However, the opposition party is urging Mr Mnangagwa, who has been part of the ruling elite, to end the “culture of corruption”.
