An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday has ordered a businessman, Samuel Asiama, 42, to be remanded in prison for allegedly defiling a nine-year-old girl.
Mr. Asiama, who lives in Isale-Oja, Agege, and Lagos, has been charged with defilement by police.
Magistrate A.O Layinka, who did not take Mr. Asiama’s plea, ordered he be remanded in Kirikri Correctional Centre.
Ms. Layinka directed the police to send the case file to the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice and adjourned the case until December 1 for DPP legal advice.
Lucky Ihiehie, Prosecution Counsel, told the court that Mr. Asiama had committed a crime in his residence on 14 August.
He said that Mr. Asiama called the girl into his room and defiled her.
He said the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. This section prescribes life imprisonment for defilement.
