A motor vehicle has crashed into a large crowd of Muslim worshippers, killing three at the Eid-El Kabir prayer ground in Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State.
Witness reports revealed that the driver lost control of the car and rammed into the crowd leaving scores of other worshippers injured at the praying ground.
The angry mob descended on the driver of the car but was rescued by policemen at the praying ground venue.
One of the police officers, Joseph Adejuwon, was allegedly mobbed to death as he tried to save the driver from the angry mob.
The driver of the ill-fated incident has been arrested by the Nigerian police, while injured worshippers have been taken to the hospital for treatment.
Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, PPRO Abimbola Oyeyemi, revealed that the killed policeman was an orderly to a Divisional Police Officer in the state.
Mr Oyeyemi also said that investigations had begun into the case.
