Berger Paint Protest: breadwinners Of various families Sacked by management

The Berger Paint staff who have been protesting in the last one week has been sacked. The protest which began, June 12 and lasted for more than a week seem to have gone sour for the majority breadwinners, as all staff of the paint company was automatically sacked from the company today.

Information just reaching us from a relaible source of Berger paint indicated that the staff of Berger Paints at Oba Akran Ikeja have been on strike for the past 2 weeks because of the plan to stop the pay of gratuity by the company. In an interview granted daily family last week, by one of the staff of berger paint, it was said that the management failed to pay staff’s gratuity for more than twelve months now, hence the reason for the protest. In a chat with Dailyfamily correspondent, he said.

“The agreement has come out from CANPEF the body that governs management side of companies and the national body that govern and look after the welfare of staff in March 2017 that gratuity continues and our management is part of CANPEF”.

The new wage stops gratuity payment and adds the money to staff’s monthly salary so that upon retirement, you get no gratuity. The new policy was said to have been implemented in 2015, which was used to create an impression of Salary increment.

Reports gathered indicated that the management didn’t consult the staff on the matter before its implementation. It was eventually brought to the notice of the staff in 2017.

Our source from Berger paint said to us today that the information was pasted on the company’s gate post that we were all dismissed and should reapply if we are still interested in working with Berger paints. He also added.
“We are going to Federal Ministry of Labour at Ikoyi tomorrow so until then, the situation remains the same”

More details coming your way soon.
